SetupProper set up of your cabin is important to support the exterior walls with either vertical 2x4 24" oc directly under the rim joist(side walls), or cinder blocks stacked up to support the perimeter of the cabin. You could also do a pit set. The base beneath cabin will need to be gravel, compact dirt or concrete. A vapor barrier should be laid and then the blocks that will support the piers beneath the I-beams @ 100" oc on top of that. This task is most easily accomplished before the cabin is placed. Slope the plastic to the perimeters to allow for drainage. From the bottom of the I-beam to the ground should be at least 18" - enough for a person to crawl under. Use either cinder blocks with shims, or (which I think is better), adjustable piers which I sell for $11.50 ea. It will take 16 piers for the Puget Sound model. Skirting can be accomplished a number of ways but no matter what the exterior side walls must be supported and the priority. The log siding combined with the trussed roof system creates a load on the outer walls that can bow the floor joist upwardly if not put in check. If you are planning to install a deck around all or a portion of the cabin, then in the areas that are covered by the deck, you can use adjustable piers to support the outer walls as well. Otherwise, if you are planning on using wood of the same type as the siding you'll need to use the 2x4 post method. The posts give you something to nail the skirting to. Be sure the skirting has ventilation as well as access panels where the water and gas connections are located. In high wind areas, tie downs are required. Check your local codes.
